Uber, Have You Seen My Stuff?

Uber

Take enough Uber trips and you likely have a wild story to share. Maybe it’s a story you learned from your driver about an unbelievably rude customer or a nightmare about a drunk passenger who puked all over the place. However, it’s also easy to leave some of your stuff behind in an Uber, especially if you are intoxicated or it’s late at night and something slipped out of your pocket.

The Uber Lost & Found Index keeps track of the most commonly left behind items, including clothes, phones, wallets and jewelry. The most forgetful day in 2023 was April 5, when upwards of 1,000 items were reported missing, to give you a sense of the daily volume this might produce.

Believe it or not, you can bet on Uber stuff that goes missing at a top-rated sportsbook like BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review to learn more). We look at the available markets below and give our best advice on how to approach each with the information we have available from Uber combined with some common sense.

Uber – Most Commonly Found Item in 2024

The 1st betting market is for which item will be the most common found by drivers in an Uber in 2024. Note that this excludes clothing, which ranked as the No. 1 item in 2023.

Here are the choices with odds from BetOnline, and for handy reference, we included where these items ranked in the top 10 (if available) for 2021, 2022 and 2023 according to the Uber Lost & Found Index:

  • Phones (+200) – No. 1 in 2021, No. 1 in 2022, No. 2 in 2023
  • Backpacks/purses (+250) – No. 5 in 2021, No. 4 in 2022, No. 3 in 2023
  • Wallets (+400) – No. 3 in 2021, No. 2 in 2022, No. 4 in 2023
  • Headphones (+800) – No. 6 in 2021, No. 5 in 2022, No. 5 in 2023
  • Jewelry (+1000) – Not ranked in 2021, No. 9 in 2022, No. 6 in 2023
  • Keys (+1200) – No. 4 in 2021, No. 3 in 2022, No. 7 in 2023
  • Books (+1200) – Not ranked in 2021 or 2022, No. 8 in 2023
  • Laptops (+2500) – Not ranked in 2021 or 2022, No. 9 in 2023
  • Watches (+2500) – Not ranked in 2021 or 2022, No. 10 in 2023

Maybe we bet too many sports, but this comes as a surprise that the odds for 2024 are in perfect order with the rankings in lost items in 2023 from Uber. When you consider that clothing is removed from the field, then phones would actually be the No. 1 item in each of the last 3 years. It should be favored again.

The longshots are not valuable. How many people really wear watches these days due to phones? Also, if you are carrying a laptop with you, you better guard that thing at all costs.

Basically, you’re looking for items that the largest number of people will have on them regardless of their age or gender. That’s going to be things like keys, wallets and phones. In fact, you basically need a phone to order an Uber unless someone has ordered you one. Even then, most people have a phone on them when they are out these days.

With clothing excluded, we dig the value of phones here.

Uber – Most Unique Items to Make the Top 10 in 2024

We looked at general items in the previous section. However, some very unique items are left behind each year, and those were collected in a top 50 list by Uber for 2023. We have included the 10 most unique items found in an Uber in 2023:

  • Danny DeVito Christmas ornament.
  • MY DOG IS IN THE CAR!!! A toy poodle.
  • Blue cap that says ‘i love the smell of jet fuel in the morning’.
  • Fog machine.
  • Some bowling rags.
  • Ankle monitor.
  • My unicycle.
  • 16 oz of fake blood.
  • A printer and remote-controlled vibrator.
  • A pin with Jesus holding slice of pizza.

You get the idea, and we would love to question the person who managed to leave behind the remote-controlled vibrator and a printer.

Still, you can bet on which items will make the top 10 most unique list for 2024. There is a long list of them at BetOnline with the biggest longshot being the Vince Lombardi Trophy (+150000). We have included a few with the highest odds, and it would seem that multiple picks can make the top 10, so more than 1 bet should be able to win this market:

  • A gun (+400)
  • A baby (+600)
  • Some oysters (+600)
  • A cat (+800)
  • A catheter (+800)
  • A blow up doll (+800)
  • A finger (+800)
  • A major organ of the body (+1200)
  • A sword (+1200)
  • A skull (+1200)
  • A Super Bowl ring (+1200)

These are all unique and did not make the top 10 last year, as it seems to change every year. Some of the top 10 unique items in 2022 according to Uber were someone’s grandma’s teeth, some tater tots and a “It’s Boba time” apron. A sword has ranked 29th in 2022 and 2023.

BetOnline even has a “Donald Trump vibrator” with +10000 odds, which begs the question, can people make these bets, leave these items behind and hope they win? Or would so many people have the same idea that the items no longer become unique enough to make the top 10? It’s a catch-22.

This feels so random from year to year that your best bet is to get a little weird and avoid the highest odds. People likely forget a gun or baby in an Uber multiple times every year in America.

Since the ones with higher than +1200 odds are too silly and specific, we think the best value play from the list above is the skull. You could see someone having it for Halloween or a med school class and leave it behind. That would still be rare enough to crack the list.

State with the Most Cities in the Top 10 for Forgotten Uber Items in 2024

Let’s switch gears from items to locations where this happens a lot. You can bet at BetOnline on the state with the most cities in the top 10 list of most “forgetful” cities from Uber in 2024:

  1. Florida (+200)
  2. California (+250)
  3. Texas (+300)
  4. New York (+800)
  5. Pennsylvania (+800)
  6. Illinois (+1200)
  7. Ohio (+1200)
  8. Georgia (+1600)
  9. North Carolina (+1600)
  10. Michigan (+2000)

This feels like a perfect thing for those Florida residents, doesn’t it? We can only imagine the items left behind by your average “Florida man” or “Florida woman” each year.

Here are the results from the past few years for this market:

  • 2023: Florida (Jacksonville and Miami) tied with Texas (San Antonio and Houston) for the most with 2 each.
  • 2022: Texas was the only state with multiple cities in the top 10, winning with 3 cities (Austin, Houston and Dallas).
  • 2021: Texas (Austin, San Antonio and Houston) had 3 of the top 6 cities to win this year as well.

Florida certainly has the odd residents and tourist cities to do this, but Texas has that huge population and has usually dominated this list in the last 3 years. We like the value with Texas only having the 3rd-highest odds here.

The Most Forgetful City in 2024

Finally, you can bet at BetOnline on the most forgetful city for lost Uber items in 2024. For research, we included where the cities ranked in 2021-23 if they were in the top 10:

  1. Jacksonville, FL (+250) – No. 1 in 2023
  2. San Antonio, TX (+300) – No. 4 in 2021, No. 2 in 2023
  3. Palm Springs, CA (+500) – No. 3 in 2023
  4. Salt Lake City, UT (+600) – No. 5 in 2023
  5. Miami, FL (+700) – No. 6 in 2023
  6. Atlanta, GA (+800) – No. 7 in 2022, No. 7 in 2023
  7. Indianapolis, IN (+1000) – No. 4 in 2022, No. 8 in 2023
  8. Kansas City, KC (+1200) – No. 8 in 2021, No. 6 in 2022, No. 9 in 2023

Austin, Texas ranked No. 1 in both 2021 and 2022, so a repeat is possible. But while Jacksonville, Florida ranked No. 1 in 2023, it didn’t even make the top 10 in 2021 or 2022. The same can be said of Palm Springs, Salt Lake City and Miami.

This is another case where the sportsbooks are just going down the line from the 2023 list, though it left out Houston, Texas despite its ranking in the top 6 every year since 2021. Houston might be a good one to request on demand from the sportsbooks.

However, if we can’t have Houston, we’ll double down on Texas and take San Antonio, which has been close near the top in 2-of-3 years since 2021.
