Captain America Brave New World

Has it really been over 8 years since the last standalone Captain America movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)? Time flies so fast that Captain America isn’t even Steve Rogers anymore in the role Chris Evans has become best known for. The mantle of Captain America has gone to actor Anthony Mackie (Twisted Metal), who plays Sam Wilson.

But in true MCU fashion, you need to have watched several other films as well as a Disney+ series (or a few) to truly be ready to watch Captain America: Brave New World when it comes out in 2025.

Fortunately, we have all the details to catch up on what you need to have watched first, and what to expect from the plot, cast and release date for Captain America: Brave New World before betting on it at top-rated sportsbooks.

Warning: Multiple spoilers for MCU projects are included.

From Phase 3 to Phase 5, Captain America Has Been Through a Lot

When Captain America: Brave New World is released, it will mark the 35th entry in the MCU. After nearly 3 dozen movies, one of the biggest highlights has been the Captain America trilogy with Chris Evans.

The original was just a solid entry to establish the character, but 2014’s The Winter Soldier and 2016’s Civil War still hold up as some of the best movies with the best action scenes in the entire MCU.

However, Civil War was just the start of Phase 3, which was before the Multiverse Saga. Since then, we’ve seen so much happen to these characters in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame with Tony Stark/Iron Man sacrificing himself to defeat Thanos and bring back half the world’s population that died in The Blip. Endgame completed the story arc for Steve Rogers, who we see as an old man at peace who has passed on the shield to Sam Wilson/The Falcon.

By the time Brave New World comes out, it will be the next to last entry in Phase 5 of the MCU:

  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023)
  • The Marvels (November 10, 2023)
  • Deadpool & Wolverine (July 26, 2024)
  • Captain America: Brave New World (February 14, 2025)
  • Thunderbolts (May 2, 2025)

But just as important as being caught up on the MCU movies before you watch Captain America: Brave New World, you need to watch the 6-episode limited series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+.

While not on par with the other top Marvel projects, that show follows the story of Wilson/Falcon becoming the new Captain America and the struggles associated with that. It also introduces the problematic character John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, who will be in future MCU projects like Thunderbolts and possibly Brave New World.

Who Is the Creative Team Behind Captain America: Brave New World?

Captain America: Brave New World is directed by Nigerian director Julius Onah, who is known for The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) and Luce (2019).

The screenplay is credited to the trio of Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton. Spellman and Musson were both writers on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so they are familiar with this story and these characters.

The film’s original title was going to be Captain America: New World Order before it was changed to Brave New World. Most filming was completed in 2023 with some reshoots in 2024.

What Is the Plot of Captain America: Brave New World

Not many plot details are known yet, but the general plot for Captain America: Brave New World is that Sam Wilson is at the center of an international incident and must figure out the mastermind behind it.

The cast may shed some light on what to expect from this one.

Who Is in the Cast of Captain America: Brave New World?

  • Anthony Mackie is back in his 6th MCU film as Sam Wilson, also known as Falcon, and now the new Captain America. The character of Wilson made his debut way back in 2014’s The Winter Soldier. This will be Mackie’s biggest lead role to date in his career.
  • Danny Ramirez, who played “Fanboy” in Top Gun: Maverick, reprises his role as Joaquin Torres from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He is a lieutenant in the US Air Force who takes up the mantle of Falcon from Wilson.
  • Also returning from the Disney+ series is Carl Lumby’s Isaiah Bradley, a Korean War vet and super soldier.
  • Legendary actor Harrison Ford makes his MCU debut as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the newly elected President of the United States. Ford is replacing actor William Hurt, who passed away. In the movie, Ford will turn into the Red Hulk.

With Red Hulk being a big part of this movie, you can expect to see some actors reprise their roles from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, including Liv Tyler as Betty Ross and Tim Blake Nelson as scientist Samuel Sterns, who has superhuman intelligence. Sterns should become the leader in this film, serving as a villain for Captain America.

Speaking of villains, the incomparable Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring from Breaking Bad) will make his MCU debut as Seth Voelker, otherwise known as Sidewinder, the King of the Serpent Society.

WWE wrestler Seth Rollins will reportedly appear in the film in an undisclosed role.

When Is Captain America: Brave New World Being Released?

After multiple delays from 2024 dates, Captain America: Brave New World will be released exclusively in theaters in the United States on February 14, 2025.

A fresh take on one of the most beloved Avengers, the additions of some great actors should make this one of the more interesting post-Endgame movies in the MCU.
