Fallout Season 2: What We Know So Far

Fallout

Adapting the video game Fallout into a TV series always seemed doable as the wasteland setting is ripe for this era of prestige television. It would just take some skill to capture the 1950s sci-fi feel of the games with a post-nuclear story that can unfold over many episodes, if not extend to Season 2 and beyond.

However, Amazon Prime Video has exceeded all expectations with how good Season 1 of Fallout was when it released all 8 episodes in April. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is the only original series that’s been viewed more than Fallout on Prime Video. Fallout holds a 93% fresh rating from critics and 89% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Maybe video game adaptations are the next big wave to replace the overdone onslaught of comic book movies because Fallout is right on par with what HBO accomplished with The Last of Us in 2023.

Like that series, Fallout is getting a 2nd season as it was renewed quickly by Amazon. That means more Walton Goggins as The Ghoul, more Ella Purnell as Vault Dweller Lucy and maybe some new treats fans of the game will be sure to appreciate.

Before wagering at top-rated sportsbooks for the next season’s outcomes, here is everything we know about Fallout Season 2 so far.

When Will Fallout Season 2 Air?

There is no release date yet for Fallout Season 2. The project was initially announced by Amazon in 2020, but COVID-19 obviously delayed things. Goggins and Purnell were not cast until early in 2022, so it only took just over 2 years from that point to get Season 1 streaming.

With the show a success and work already done on the sets and casting, it should take less time to get Season 2 out there. You should expect it in 2025, or since these series struggle to get new seasons out on a yearly basis these days, think 2026 at the latest.

Who Will Return in Fallout Season 2?

Plot details are obviously not available at this time, but we can make some educated guesses on which actors/characters you should expect to see in Fallout Season 2. Consider the following spoilers if you haven’t watched Season 1, which you should really do as soon as possible because it is great.

The core characters should all return as they all survived Season 1 and are crucial to the story. That includes:

  • Walton Goggins as The Ghoul/Cooper Howard: We still need to see what happened to Howard’s family after the surprise that his wife had a big role at Vault-Tec and played a role in the war.
  • Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean: Our main protagonist, Lucy could follow her father Hank after he escaped in the finale, and she can continue her developing relationship with Maximus.
  • Aaron Molten as Maximus: Our Brotherhood of Steel character is promoted to Knight Maximus at the end of Season 1.
  • Kyle MacLachlan as Hank MacLean: Lucy’s father escaped and seemed to come across a city that looked an awful lot like Fallout: New Vegas, so we haven’t seen the last of him by any stretch.
  • Moises Arias as Norm MacLean: Lucy’s brother is our side quest hero as he tries to uncover conspiracies in Vault 33. We could see more Vaults in Season 2.

When a show reaches popularity like this, more actors are going to want to join as new guest stars, either as major villains or sidekicks in Season 2. Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul has expressed interest in the series, and he has worked with executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy before on HBO’s Westworld. He could be a name to keep an eye on for joining the Season 2 cast.

Is Fallout Following the Storylines of the Games?

No, Fallout on Prime Video does not fit in a neat timeline with the recent games in the series, including Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4.

However, the series does combine elements that fans of the game will recognize from the water problem in Vault 33 to Mr. Handy the robot and that glimpse in the finale of what sure looked like New Vegas in the desert.

That’s the exciting thing about this series. It does such a good job of capturing the feel of the games while including enough of the established lore that it still respects the story.

However, by not copying the games’ plot, it gives the Fallout writers the freedom to borrow from the beloved games and create new storylines. For all we know, Season 2 could take place in New Vegas with our main trio of characters going to track down Lucy’s dad Hank.

Any new territory means new factions of characters and the potential for more villains and enemy types, including creatures. We could even see the Enclave with their plasma rifles in Season 2.

Things We’d Love to See in Fallout Season 2

Finally, here are some things we would love to see in Fallout Season 2 that could make sense in the world we’ve seen in Season 1.

Super Mutants would be a great addition as stronger characters who come in a variety of forms, including the Behemoth, and they could also copy the storyline from the game of having a “good” Super Mutant join our group as an ally.

A 2nd season should mean a bigger budget to work with, so let’s hope that Amazon money can deliver some quality-looking visuals on the Super Mutants.

Another fun addition would be a fight with a Deathclaw, which usually means running away scared as they are as dangerous as any enemy in the game. Imagine Lucy or Maximus trying to escape one of those from inside a cave or out in broad daylight for the best visual effects.

This very well could happen as the Season 1 finale showed a Deathclaw’s skull, so they definitely exist in this universe.

Now we wait to see what Fallout Season 2 delivers in 2025 or 2026.
