Potential Deadpool & Wolverine Cameos

Deadpool and Wolverine

One of the anticipated movie releases of the summer is Deadpool & Wolverine, which is set to release on July 26, 2024. Not only is it a sequel to Deadpool 2, which came out in 2018, but it is the first R-rated entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as part of the Phase Five group of movies.

With these characters joining the MCU in a plot about the Time Variance Authority (TVA), this could be a movie that is ripe for cameo appearances by a slew of actors from past comic book adaptations.

With 3 weeks to go before its release, here is everything we know about the potential cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine. Emphasis on potential.

It’s Always Sunny in Deadpool’s World

Rob McElhenney, best known as bar owner Mac on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is set to make an undisclosed cameo appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.

This is without question a favor to buddy Ryan Reynolds as the pair have been starring in the sports documentary series Welcome to Wrexham, which is about their ownership of a Welsh football club.

It has actually been 20 years since McElhenney’s had a film credit in a movie as he’s spent his time on It’s Always Sunny and other TV work. But you can just expect a small cameo from him that should be funny.

In fact, Wrexham A.F.C. player Ollie Palmer is expected to have a cameo as a bar attendee, so maybe McElhenney’s cameo will resemble his famous character Mac.

Sabretooth Returns (But Which Actor?)

It wouldn’t be a great Wolverine story without one of his main villains in Sabretooth. It has been some time since we’ve seen Sabretooth on the big screen. Actor Liev Schreiber played him in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but recent trailer footage shows that this Sabretooth will be played by Tyler Mane, who was in the original X-Men film from 2000.

That was a long time ago, but Mane’s Sabretooth was memorable in what was at the time just the beginning of the cinematic universe for the X-Men on the big screen. Mane did not appear in any other sequel in the series, so this is a big deal for him.

This Sabretooth appears to be a henchman for new character Cassandra Nova, played by Emma Corrin (The Crown). She is the twin sister of X-Men founder Charles Xavier.

It is also confirmed that actor Ray Parker will return as Toad, who was also in X-Men (2000).

Aaron Stanford’s Pyro Is Back

There will be more Pyro in Deadpool & Wolverine as actor Aaron Stanford (12 Monkeys) is set to reprise the role he played in X2 (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006).

The actor is reportedly happy about getting a legitimate costume this time after feeling shafted on his threads in the Fox-produced movies.

Jennifer Garner Returns as Elektra

Jennifer Garner has been in the news lately with her co-parenting headlines with former husband Ben Affleck, who she bonded with while playing Elektra in the 2003 film Daredevil. She later went on to star in her own movie, Elektra, in 2005.

She initially denied the rumor in 2023 that Elektra would be appearing in this movie, but it is confirmed she will play the character for the 1st time since 2005 as likely part of the multiverse angle.

As for whether Affleck will reprise his Daredevil for this one, that looks unlikely.

Chris Hemsworth Is Back as Thor (Kinda)

Again, since this is now an MCU and multiverse story, you can expect to see familiar faces. One of those is reportedly Chris Hemsworth as Thor, but the actor was surprised by the news that he was going to be in Deadpool & Wolverine.

That’s because the scene is actually archived footage from Thor: The Dark World (2013) with Thor crying over Deadpool instead of brother Loki. This is not a newly filmed scene for Hemsworth.

The Original X-Men Return?

Reynolds has promised some big cameos and that anything is possible for this movie. A strong rumor has been that the original X-Men cast from 2000 will reprise their roles alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. That should include:

  • Patrick Stewart as Professor X
  • Ian McKellen as Magneto
  • Halle Berry as Storm
  • Famke Janssen as Jean Grey
  • James Marsden as Cyclops

That’s just a rumor for now but it would make a lot of sense to see them appear.

Will We Finally See Channing Tatum as Gambit?

One of the more famous cancelled movie projects, Channing Tatum was attached to star in a solo Gambit movie a whole decade ago in 2014. But after development hell for years, the project was canceled in 2019, which crushed Tatum as the Magic Mike star would have been a good fit for the character.

However, we might finally get to see Tatum as Gambit on the big screen if his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine is indeed legitimate.

Dafne Keen as Laura/X-23 from Logan

Rumor has it that actress Dafne Keen will reprise her Logan role as an older version of Laura, the mutant also known as X-23. She did a great job as a young actress in Logan and had an emotional goodbye with Jackman’s character. It would be interesting to see how they could work a cameo for her in this movie.

Taylor Swift in the MCU?

For the rumor of all rumors, some have speculated that Taylor Swift, the most famous person in the world these days, would make her MCU debut as Dazzler, a musically-gifted mutant. Lady Deadpool would be another possibility for the singer to make a cameo here.

But that does not appear to be the case after all. In fact, others have reported that if Swift does something in the MCU, it will be as the Blonde Phantom in a film produced by actress Scarlett Johansson.

Guess we’ll just have to find out later this month which rumors were false and which cameos will be on the big screen. In the meantime, get ready to place your bets at the top sportsbooks.
