Reacher Season 3 Release Date, Cast and Plot

Amazon Prime Video knows it has a hit on its hands with Reacher, an action series based on the Jack Reacher book series by author Lee Child. Maybe it helped that Tom Cruise played the character in a couple of Hollywood movies, but Reacher star Alan Ritchson has done the impossible and upstaged Cruise with his portrayal of the former U.S. Army military policeman/badass. 

Debuting in 2022 to strong reviews and an engaged audience, Reacher has been one of Amazon’s top original series. Not only has the show been renewed for Season 3, but Amazon recently announced a Season 4, and actress Maria Sten is going to get a spin-off series based on her character Frances Neagley.

Given that there are 29 Jack Reacher novels (and counting), Amazon has a ton of source material to pull from for many seasons to come. The only downside to it all is that Ritchson better get used to those protein shakes, the many hours at the gym, and everything else he does to maintain that huge physique to play this character.

When Is Reacher Season 3 Coming Out?

There is no official release date yet for Reacher Season 3. But they have been working on it for a while, and the wait won’t be as long as the one between Seasons 1 and 2 that was hampered by the 2023 strikes.

Season 2 debuted on December 15, 2023, and wrapped up airing on January 19, 2024. It is possible that Season 3, which will consist of 8 episodes again, will debut before the end of 2024. But it shouldn’t be any later than the early winter months of 2025 before you can watch Season 3 on Amazon Prime Video.

Who Is in the Cast for Reacher Season 3?

Obviously, Ritchson is back as Jack Reacher, the star of the show. But Season 2 had a very different cast with more of a team effort helping Reacher out. That may not be the case in Season 3 based on the book they chose to follow. More on that below.

But the only confirmed returning character is Neagley, which makes sense since she’s been a big part of both seasons already, and they have to hype up her upcoming spin-off series too. But actress Maria Sten will for sure be in Season 3, though you should probably expect her to have lower involvement like in Season 1.

The new villain, Francis Xavier Quinn, will be played by Brian Tee, a Japanese-American actor known for his roles in The Wolverine, Jurassic World, and the 2024 Amazon Prime Video series Expats. Quinn is a Lieutenant Army Colonel who Reacher has already investigated in the past for selling secrets to enemies of the United States.

As for other actors set to join the show in Season 3, 1980s teen legend Anthony Michael Hall (The Breakfast Club) is going to play Zachary Beck, the owner of a rug import company who is suspected by Reacher of doing some shady business behind closed doors. Beck’s son will be played by Johnny Berchtold (Tiny Beautiful Things).

Sonya Cassidy (Lodge 49) is going to play a DEA agent named Sarah Duffy, which will give Reacher a new woman to work with and likely be his love interest for the season. She’ll have a rookie DEA partner named Steven Elliot, played by Daniel David Stewart (For All Mankind).

It was also reported earlier this year that actor Olivier Ritchters will play a character named Paulie who outweighs Reacher by 200 pounds. Yes, imagine the fight scene when these guys get into it.

What Is the Plot for Reacher Season 3?

The Reacher team has been clear that the books are so thoroughly written that they don’t need to combine them to make a full season of the show. One book can equal one season, and that’s been the case so far.

However, that doesn’t mean they have to follow the books in order. Reacher Season 1 was based on the first novel, Killing Floor. Season 2 of Reacher was based on the 11th book called Bad Luck and Trouble.

But they are going back in time for Reacher Season 3, which will be based on the 7th book, Persuader. This story is going to be more of a lone wolf mission for Reacher compared to Season 2. He is unofficially working with the DEA to bring down Zachary Beck (Anthony Michael Hall), who is suspected of using his rug business to traffic drugs.

This is going to lead Reacher to some undercover work to infiltrate the Beck family business. He is doing this for the DEA so he can get another crack at Francis Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee), who 10 years ago murdered Reacher’s colleague. Quinn, who Reacher believed to be dead, is Beck’s boss, so he’ll have his shot at taking them both down.

It should be another solid season of action on Reacher. We’ll see what they have in store with for Season 4’s choice of novel and how the Neagley spin-off goes.
