CoD Black Ops 6

The world of gaming welcomed its annual preview marathon this past weekend with the Summer Game Fest, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the main event of Microsoft’s showcase, really caught fans’ attention.

The extended preview of the 1990s-based Black Ops 6 was unquestionably one of the most anticipated segments. And while it’s set to be the first game from the CoD franchise that will be a part of Xbox’s Game Pass service, fans and esports bettors might also need an extra hard drive to enjoy every aspect of the game.

Black Ops 6 Is Huge – Literally!

Microsoft has pointed out that Black Ops 6 will weigh a staggering 309.85 gigabytes, making it the largest COD game ever in terms of the storage space players will need to install it.

Xbox’s store page reveals that Black Ops 6 is 309.85 GB. This is for Xbox Series X and S users, but we can estimate that similar sizes will be rolled out for other platforms, too. Of course, Call of Duty fans aren’t unfamiliar with large installation footprints, and the FPS franchise undoubtedly has a reputation for how much storage space it uses. Still, Black Ops 6 is taking hard drive space requirements to the next level.

To understand the gargantuan size of Black Ops 6, if every title were the same size, most standard hard drives on new-gen Xboxes and PlayStations would have the capacity to install just three games simultaneously.

Black Ops 6 will reside within CoD HQ—the Activision game launcher—alongside fellow Call of Duty experiences, so we can’t be certain how the size comparison will look once the game is completely downloaded. The 309 GB could be a worst-case situation’ for BO6 if the other CoD games are also installed or if it does include Battle Royale Warzone.

It doesn’t, however, sound as bad as it seems; Call of Duty installations allow players to reduce gigabyte requirements by selecting which portions of the game they want to install. However, at the time of writing, it would seem that fans looking for a complete Black Ops 6 experience, including multiplayer, zombies, and the campaign, will need to make way for a significant amount of storage space.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct

Microsoft fully revealed Black Ops 6 at the Call of Duty Direct, which followed its Xbox Games Showcase. As we now know, Modern Warfare 2 and 3 content is not included in Black Ops 6, which serves as a “fresh start for everyone.” But Warzone will see a continuation of Black Ops 6 content.

Set in the early 1990s following Black Ops Cold War, Black Ops 6 is connected to the flashbacks from the 1980s in Black Ops 2. Sixteen new maps—four smaller Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6 and twelve core 6v6 maps—launch with multiplayer.
