Red Dead Redemption

The long-awaited arrival of Red Dead Redemption for PC games is over! Rockstar Games’ second most popular franchise has finally become available on Steam, and the action-adventure classic has received an overwhelmingly positive response since it dropped.

Despite releasing on consoles in 2010, the RDR franchise remains one of the most talked about open-world games to date. Outside of Rockstar’s baby, Grand Theft Auto, it’s arguably the most popular open-world title in gaming history. So, when Rockstar announced Red Dead Redemption 1 would be available to PC users on October 29, 2024, fans of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title rejoiced.

2010’s Red Dead Redemption was critically acclaimed for its visuals, narrative, and gameplay. As a result, it sold over 22 million copies. But Rockstar isn’t finished yet. Those figures are about to climb higher, with the highly anticipated PC release already causing a stir amongst the gaming community.

Let’s take a closer look at the details before betting on the game’s numbers at the top-rated sportsbooks.

Red Dead Redemption Witnesses Over 8,000 Concurrent Player Counts at Launch

Within eight hours of Red Dead Redemption’s PC release on October 29, 2024, Steam witnessed more than 8,000 players concurrent players. For a game that’s now 14 years old, that’s pretty damn impressive. It’s even more remarkable when you consider the fact that this number was triumphant to recent Steam hits like Starfield, God of War Ragnarok, and Sonic X Shadow Generations.

Red Dead Redemption’s PC release is being praised for its ability to stay traditional to its original roots despite undergoing a graphical overhaul that includes 4k resolution, Super Ultrawide and Ultrawide support, AMD FSR 3.0 upscaling, and much more. In turn, reviews on Steam have been mostly received well, with 93% of reviewers giving it a positive score.

Positive Reviews, But Not Everyone Is Happy

Perfection in the gaming world is rare; as always, there is something to complain about.

The biggest gripe regarding Red Dead Redemption’s PC release doesn’t involve the gameplay or graphical advancements, but the price hasn’t gone down well with some. At $49.99, a select group of fans believes this price point is disgusting for a game close to its 15th anniversary. Others have highlighted the controls, claiming that PC users need greater keyboard and mouse support.

While some PC goers will wait for RDR to receive a price slash on Steam, the overall response has been very positive thus far. As for Rockstar, they’re a gaming giant that seemingly cannot be stopped, with GTA 6 arriving in late 2025 or 2026 and the potential of Red Dead Redemption 3 coming after. The latter isn’t official, but if you look at the response from RDR dropping on Steam, the game developer will likely give this dedicated community another instalment of cowboy adventure somewhere down the line.
